... Yes and no. It's all I've got from home, and the stuff it can do makes me feel better. So in that sense, it's precious to me. And it has photos that are precious to me on it.

The phone itself would be replaceable back home, though.

We do not plan to keep you here forever if that is what you are asking. While we cannot say why you all were the ones chosen to come here, we do not wish to keep you from your destinies forever.

It just... Made me think. About what we're all coming from. That's our destiny, right? [ that seems to be the part she's primarily focused on, even though she adds on a kind of after-thought: ] Then what is this?

I do believe that one might have multiple destinies, depending on the choices in one's life.

Perhaps if you choose another course here, you might create a new future for yourself.

Is that something you wish for?

... No. I'm already in control of my own future, so it doesn't need to be changed by any of this.

Isn't multiple destinies against the whole point of it, though?

Do you believe that to be true?

Certainly, you are in control of your own future - but do you always believe without fail that you will always make one choice? Can the same be said for others?

If those choices are taken, can the paths not diverge?

Why would I make different choices? I'm still myself, right? So I'll think the same things, pick the same things...

Not in all cases. It is hard to say how people will change if they have but one conversation earlier, if they discover something new that they didn't in another situation...

The tides of time are fickle as well.

So--have you had one? A destiny-changing, life-altering conversation at just the right time?

I have.

It's something I've witnessed in others as well.

But in the years I have lived, I suppose I am capable of witnessing more than the average person.

It's cheap, that's all. Heartfelt speeches to change who someone is and rescue the villain... It's not any different than manipulation, and that isn't how the real world works.

Mm. You are correct. In the end, we are only trying to see how well other people can move, aren't we?

And to say what results after that, and how worthy they are in the scheme of things, is only subjective.

I guess--there's a library here, so you must know about books. So... Kid's stories. The ones where you can resolve everything peacefully and everyone is good on the inside.
