Axel's tied to Hisoka, who's proven a good source of information-- and more willing to share, recently. Given his ability, I have plenty of reason to keep him and Axel both around. Xion, I have no reason to kill-- the same with Saix and Namine. I don't mind Namine's partner at all, either.
[he just sort of ticks all those off on his fingers, then shrugs.]
Beyond the fact that I don't intend to repeat a failure, it seems my partner ought to be kept alive for similar reasons as Hisoka, much as I doubt we'll truly build any trust.
[After a moment, he adds:]
Hisoka, Akane-chan, and Minato-kun. They're all quite useful; if she didn't seem like she'd be trouble, I'd have chosen Akane-chan's partner instead.
With the gambit of hoping to repair Akane with someone else. [An interesting list, and he pauses as he thinks. Most of those are people he likes well enough. It's agreeable, and it's simple enough to nod along as he lists them off.]
I think those are all people we can favor and work with in keeping alive and working toward the same end goal. I gotta admit, that's more from you than I thought you'd have picked. [...they seem pleased though.]
We can consider it an arrangement. [There's a nod.] And we can figure out terms. I have a deals in place with a few people, but one more isn't going to hurt.
I take it 'don't target these particular people' would be one of yours-- I won't object to that.
[He considers a few moments, there.]
I'd prefer not to put myself at too much unnecessary risk; I do need to make it out of here alive. I can agree to keeping it between us, as well. Beyond that, it would depend on just what you'd like, and I'll consider terms individually.
So I suppose a better question is: what will it take to secure your help in finding out if this darkness is controllable, and in finding a way to influence my own home?
Generally speaking, keep some people on a leash so they don't harm the people I have a personal investment in. Not drawing attention to them would also be wise.
[...] You would need to complete some tasks and I can see about getting more information or something to aid you. However, staying alive in and of itself is a way to influence your own home. It's how the darkness interferes.
The thing you struggle with most here is trust, isn't it? Getting people to trust you, and trusting people in return.
It'll have to be before I can do anything to help, but that doesn't mean I won't be working in the background to deliver right away. Think of it like we're working on opposite paths toward the same goal and meeting in the middle.
...find four people that you trust, and people that trust you in return. You can't fake it. You find that, I should have something that can help you figure some stuff out.
True, and then that wouldn't solve anything. An act of trust is the only way to really establish trust. Whether that's people telling you something they haven't told anyone else, granting you something no one else has access to...taking the fall for someone else...sacrificing for someone else...stuff like that.
I believe I can. If Hisoka didn't expose me this time, even when he came under suspicion, I don't believe that he will... and I don't think I need to worry about that from Akane-chan, either.
I think he's proven himself, so far. Though I suppose you might be a better judge of whether he's lying to me outside that or not-- he's claimed he's one of two who's able to check others, here.
[So if that's actually true, then there's probably some mutual trust there, or at least Shirasu would consider it to be.
His scale of it is probably a lot different from Sol's.]
If it's true and he's willing to share that, I doubt he intends to turn on me so easily. We've had an arrangement since we first arrived.
He punched me over a fence, Shirasu. [Baby is a petty bitch, news at 11.] I don't know if playing fair is his style even if he likes someone. But then again, I'm not sure you would either.
[Weird how they're more fine with it if it's Shirasu but not Hisoka.] Do you believe him on that claim? ...what kind of arrangement was that anyway?
[He's just saying? Shirasu broke it up eventually? It's not like Sol wasn't holding his own. He also does not comment on whether he'd play fair or not, because no, Sol isn't wrong.]
If it's not him, he's working with someone who is and covering for them. His information's been accurate so far, and he's hinted at it before without saying so. As for our own arrangement...
[A pause, there, as he considers how to put it.]
I identified him as someone who'd go along with things he found interesting, so we agreed to cover for each others' elements in public-- but as you've seen, it's extended further since then.
Well yeah. Like I wouldn't? [Not realizing his point is 100% lost because of that, he's just moving right along.]
A little funny that he's willing to share information, but he must have decided you're going to keep it to yourself. That early on though...that's what's even more interesting. [What a strange thought.]
That's usually how trust works, I think. People find common ground with someone else and it goes from there. It's more like...I wonder which of you will find something more interesting first. But if you really trust him...I can't complain. Maybe you can keep him in line for me where I need him to be.
I trust him roughly as much as I'd trust anyone here. I'll still keep as much of an eye on him as I would anyone else, but he doesn't seem to be giving me false information, nor has he taken the chance to turn on me... apparently, I remind him of someone he knows.
[He shrugs a shoulder, slightly.]
I'll let you know if he becomes more of a risk, but he's said he needs to keep a situation at home from becoming a mess. Despite the way he behaves, I don't believe he's eager to get himself killed-- perhaps he just can't stop himself.
Oh. [Oh, okay, that's like the first time he's heard as much and it's clear he's thrown for a loop. Not so much that Shirasu reminds him of someone, but about the other part.] I'm starting to think that everyone who was brought here has something in their own world that they need or want that's harder to get. It would make a little more sense why it's you guys specifically.
[...mmm.] I'll trust your judgment on that for now then, but keep me updated? Just in case. I'm still not really happy about what happened, but since the plan didn't work the way you wanted to and it won't happen again...I can accept that.

[Don't call him out, Sol... he toys idly with the hanging ends of his headband, there, frowning.]
If we're agreed on that, then shall we consider this an arrangement? And decide our terms, of course.
no subject
What kind of terms are you open to?

[Which he can't help being a little annoyed with, for obvious reasons, but. He also thinks he has a fighting chance against most here, at least.]
Tell me which people and what tasks, and I'll see what I can do.
no subject
[There's a hum.] What if I said it's a task that may be difficult for you? Tasks that net high rewards normally have high costs.
no subject
Are you going to want me to complete it before you'll assist me, or is this something you just want done in return?

[Sol wasn't kidding about it being difficult, huh.]
And that should be acceptable.

[a tall order, but still.]
Just how are you judging this, though-- it's simple enough to ask if someone trusts you and get a false answer, you know.

[he nods, though, looking thoughtful as he considers that.]
If keeping things quiet for someone counts as well, then I suppose I have two I'd trust that have done that for me already.

Akane I can give a little bit of a pass because while she's sort of scary she's smart, but Hisoka? Really?
