[After a few moments:]

...Isn't that going to happen anyways? I mean - all of us except for one. You're not a part of our group.

...That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.

[Why she wishes it could be him, that is, even if she knows it more than likely can't.]

[After a few moments:]

...I don't think any of us are really going to want to do it, even if anyone on that list could.

Yes, but not in the way you might be thinking. It's like...

[She pauses for a moment.]

Have I told you what was happening back home for me, before I came here? I don't think I have.

So, um...

[It's hard to put this into terms Lune will understand, and that add up to the point she's trying to make with this, but:]

So, you know how the darkness here takes people and... makes them different, even if they look the same? There was something back home doing something similar, but worse. It took them over completely, and there wasn't any way to purify them or anything like that. They were just - gone as soon as they were infected.

Something worse. Think of it like a parasite, kind of, so... The body could still move and look and sound human, but there was something different inside it.

[She pauses.]

The actual logistics of that don't matter for the point I'm trying to make, it's just... [A small sigh.] It crashed on the island I lived on, and the closest city on the mainland raised their bridge so nobody could leave. By the time we found a way off... Well, by that point, there was no we anymore. It was just me.

[She looks like she's about to say something, but pauses instead, glancing at his hands.]

...I can't do that again. That's all I meant about - a different kind of burden. I don't think most of the others would be too eager to be the last one, either, unless they're the kind of person who shouldn't be left.

[She pauses for a moment.]

Wait, but - the two of you aren't included in everybody but one, are you?
foodbin: (pic#13146190)

[personal profile] foodbin 2019-07-16 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
...I really hope you aren't.

[She takes a breath.]

But, if I can ask - the people you mentioned... Why us?

[personal profile] foodbin 2019-07-16 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[She listens to all of that, nodding once he's done. She'll remember, even if there's no way to deny that she looks a bit embarrassed (but pleased) about what he says about her.]

...Do you know exactly what the decision would look like? I mean - how would the person left behind create the world?

[personal profile] foodbin 2019-07-18 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
...So it's important to get someone who won't fuck it up, basically.

[personal profile] foodbin 2019-07-19 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[She pauses for a long moment.]

I'm not trying to get you to play favorites, but considering there can only be one... Is there someone you'd trust more?

[She's asking because, in turn, she trusts his judgment.]
