What I don't understand is how killing almost everyone will help control the darkness. Wouldn't that just make things worse?
It is not as though we disagree with you - we're hardly pleased with the way that things have unfolded.
However... I've explained to another that my impression is that the corruption, every time it gets cleansed, weakens in power. Yet it will still be able to grow and regenerate itself as long as there is unrest in the core.
I'd thought that the fate of the universe could be decided upon by a singular will - a consensus ought to be enough. However...
A single person's will would be a bit more straightforward.
... So there isn't any other choice. It really has to be one survivor? Because... Why, exactly? Too many people with too many different opinions and thoughts feeds into the unrest?
That seems to be the idea. With one person's will to act as a guide the universe will know exactly how to proceed. You've seen how things go even in trials. People can change their minds and ideals based on a lot of things. Without something unified, the chances of...unrest is higher.
Akane's still around, as is whoever partnered Lea up with Shirasu... And that's without mentioning the obvious murderers still running around. People can pretend to be one thing in public, but that doesn't mean they aren't total jackasses when no one else is looking.
The odds aren't high. But it's not impossible. So... what should we expect once we're close enough to having only one survivor? And what's going to happen to that person once they're the last one standing?
It's just a guess based on what we know about the universe, but once we're close enough to having only one survivor...we're going to have to make a decision. And the universe will finally respond when the time is right. I know that's not the answer you want, but it's the only one we have right now.
Until then, you have everything possible to find those who are and aren't trustworthy among you.
What will happen to the rest of us, then? The ones who have died? I assume whatever choice the survivor makes will have an effect on all of our lives, here and back home.
