Death has never been a pretty thing, has it? Though some of you may have seen it coming, many of you have been taken by surprise in the last moments of your life.

Fortunately for you, it's not over yet.

The last thing you may remember is dying, but upon awakening you'll find yourself in what appears to be the meeting hall. Warmed by the ever-present fire, the room is empty and the voting box appears to be missing. In its place are three large panels hanging from the walls that allow the newly dead to peer into the lives of the living.

As you step out into the village, twilight has set in over the sleepy valley casting light and shadows as far as the eye can see. The same buildings appear to be here, all in the same order and with the same amenities. The sakura trees continue to bloom, the kitchen remains well-stocked, and the bell at the shrine echos. Likewise, the river flows through the village and the four elemental regions are found at the edges of the village.

The main difference, however, is the appearance of two additional huts that you don't recognize each bearing an emblem of a sun or a moon.

Make yourself comfortable. You'll be here for a while.

[ he hadn't been watching too closely for most of them. it seemed a little intrusive, to watch the deaths, even more than the usual sunday purification. so tsurumaru would just occasionally glance over just to see what's going on and then looking away.

it's not until he sees mikazuki and ookurikara that he sits a little straighter, suddenly very attentive. he's uh

but also she's just going to glance over to him once this battle starts, moving to sit next to him at least]

Mikazuki is the best of the best. It's just like him to make things difficult.

[ his fingers tap against the hilt of sword at his side. his tone is neutral, at least, like he's simply reciting facts about the weather. ]

They need to get him sooner rather than later. It'll be difficult if he makes it to a more open space and has more room to maneuver.

[she glances over at his hand and then back up to his face]

You probably want to be out there too.

It really should be Kara-bou and me.

[ because tsuru agrees with kara had said when they were discussing it as a group-- a sword should be the one to break a sword. ]

But there's no point in thinking of things like that now.

You'd be able to do something like that?

[come back to life, just to die again, and kill the person he's romantically entangled with?

[ he blinks in surprise at the question, like he doesn't quite understand why that would be questioned. ]

I would be the most suited for it.

[ SO I GUESS I NEEDED THIS LATER.

Futaba's been parked in front of Murder TV: now with more murder! since the start and has been buried under a blanket burrito for the entirety of it. She's missed out on everything being on this side of the screen so clearly, it means she needs to watch until the end. Right? Right.

Anyways, she's got a frankly astounding pile of wish stars surrounding her and seems to be subconciously working her way to a thousand while watching ]

[Val's been watching. This is his first week on this side of the screen.

But he's not happy. Watching his comrades die, one by one and not being able to do anything about it, knowing that this is the only ending the universe will accept, all of that is miserable.

What kind of a demon is he? That he couldn't rewrite the laws of the universe to his own will? Maybe if he'd done more-

Whatever thoughts are going through his head, when he gets stabbed he can't stop himself from crying out.]

[ they've been mostly quiet, as usual, watching everyone cut each other down. It's brutal, and it's foolish, and, frankly, it's disgusting, to watch this cruelty play out like a show being put on for some uncaring god while they play voyeur to it all. It came down to violence and betrayal, in the end. They shouldn't be surprised. No, they're not surprised; they're just waiting for it to be over so that they can at least go back to the misery they know. Waiting, watching, silently.

Until now - until Shess appeared. ]

S -- Shess... [ a strangled pause. ] Wait. This isn't supposed to happen...

[whitewalls]

her eyes widen, and she immediately looks over to cinnabar; they haven't made it a secret how much they like shess. ]

That's not- This wasn't part of the plan.

[Didn't they agree? Didn't everybody agree that Shess would be a good pick for last standing? Why did he-?

Can he survive that?]

He's gonna be okay. They'll show up here soon enough.

[ Futaba's voice is rough but she's clearly fighting back the latest batch of tears as her eyes remain glued to the screen. It doesn't get any easier to watch with each death occurring, does it? ]

[globs]

[ they knew they didn't like Lune. They knew it. It's a petty, flimsy thought to cling to, but they'd rather get angry than scared. Their hands tense, cinnabar nails scraping against the wood of the table they're sitting at. ]

... He's not human -- he's stronger. So it's not over...

[ right? Their words sound hollow, even to themself, but they can't start thinking that he'll lose. They don't know what they'll do if he loses. They can't think about it - they can't. ]

[His jaw is clenched, he this moment. He hates every single moment the universe and the corruption forced them to murder each other.

There's nothing he can do.

It stings the most. He was already corrupted. He killed one of his closest comrades here, why does he have to watch Shess die like this?

He answers back, but his voice is soft and tired. Even if he doesn't cry, he still-]

At the start of new week... It's not that far away.

... mm. They can still do it.

[ her voice is firm, like she actually believes what she's saying even if she doesn't.

naminé isn't sure how he can make it that long with an injury like that, at least not without medical help. ]

-- He can heal. He told me.

[ there's a tone of desperation as they watch. ]

He got that power back. He won't die.

[ He can't die. ]

You can look away.

[ it's said quietly, and he glances over at her before looking back towards the screen.

[ It sucks, doesn't it? Futaba has been sitting here just like this for weeks on end now, watching it all come to a head like this. Maybe if she had done more.... Maybe if she had bothered to make those connections with the others.... Would it still have had this outcome? ]

Yeah. We just have to hold on tight until then.

[ and hopefully, "victory" happens between this and sunday night ]

[Val takes a moment, watching the screen, before nodding.]

He wouldn't lie.

[Shess certainly kept secrets, but he worked hard. He didn't get stalled on his first task.

If he said he got his healing back, then Val will believe him.]

Shess is- he's going to be fine.

[At the very least, those words are said with conviction.]
