Right before? I was working at a coffee shop to put myself through community college. It wasn't that thrilling, but... Definitely better than what came after.
[Boring as it is, Sol seems to be hanging on to her every single word.]
...it doesn't sound so bad either, actually. I didn't have a job like that, but college wasn't really a thing either. [Sol is not going to ask what college actually is. They can guess.] And the after...was the aliens.
...someone important to you, I take it. [That's not a weird question at all.]
...if their world was fixed, and the core allowed for a reset of some kind....they should be able to go back to the way things were before. That's the point of picking a path for the core. It allows you to structure the destiny of worlds going forward.
You're welcome. [A nod back, even if it's not necessary.] You're...not the first person I can think of that would want something like that. So we have to work together to make sure that can happen.
...there are a few things you can do for me. [Hm.]
I chose you as a Nova for a reason, Emma. I trust you to find out as much as you can about the people here and guide them and find anyone who may be susceptible to the corruption.
It's hard to say, because the darkness can affect people in different ways. Some people are more open to it than other though...those are the people I'm worried about the most. The darkness only unlocks feelings that are already there. It doesn't create something new...it just corrupts it.
[They shake their head.] It's not that she's more at a risk. It's more that I don't want to see anything bad happen to her. She's been really nice. [...] Partners are supposed to look after each other anyway, and while some partnerships are those I don't really like, there are others I think can work out okay.

Well, again, if you ever find a more solid way for me to help...

Before or after everything went to shit?

It had it's problems, but... I think it was good, overall.

[She nods to his second point, though.]
Yeah, that.

It doesn't sound too different than places I've seen, even with the aliens. But hearing about something a little more average is kinda nice.

It was nice, before everything went downhill. I spent a lot of time traveling before I went back to school... South America is really beautiful.

...can you ever go back to that with the way things are now though?

Can I ask something? I mean, I know I can, it's just kind of a weird question.

[She pauses, then nods, even if she still seems quietly thoughtful.]
...Thank you. That helps.

And, I've said it before, but... You know. If there's anything I can do.

I chose you as a Nova for a reason, Emma. I trust you to find out as much as you can about the people here and guide them and find anyone who may be susceptible to the corruption.
But I need you to also look out for your partner.

[Beyond that, though:]
Is she more at risk than other people might be?

Yeah. She's a good kid... I'll look out for her, for sure.
