[She looks up at him for a long moment before her gaze falls to the ground and her narrows her eyes. When she rubs a hand across them to stop the first tears from coming out, though, it’s probably clear enough what’s making her squint.]

She was - brave and smart, even if she thought she wasn’t. She was... I loved her. I thought it would be different this time.

Well. At the very least, once she's done looking surprised, she drops her eyes down again. Even as she takes in a deep breath to try and stem whatever emotion seems to be bubbling over, she reaches up to encase the hand that's touching her face in one of her own.

Regardless of whether it's a sign of gratitude or because she's trying to steady herself, she doesn't let go just yet.]
