GAME INFO/FAQ

Intro

When you open your eyes, you will find yourself settled in a quaint little village. While you may wish to explore, you will feel compelled to follow a path toward a large meeting hall. Others have followed you as well.

Waiting for you beneath a sakura tree, two hooded figures beckon you closer. It's only when you're just within reach that they seemingly turn to you, speaking in unison.

"What path will you choose?"

[community profile] subdivided is a short-termed mafia-based murdergame where the four main elements (earth, water, fire and air), darkness and light will play a large part in creating a brand new universe. Characters will be told they have both darkness and light within them. These will be key to playing in this competition: characters will learn they'll have to play against each other, and decide for themselves what matters most.

Most importantly, this is a partner-based competition. All characters will have their fate tied to another character in-game.

Will you ally? Or betray?

The Game

What are the game's basic mechanics?

This game is loosely based on the Mafia party game, though we will be changing a few things as necessary for this game's particular play style.

Essentially, the main mechanic of this game is that at least one IC murder will take place every week that the game runs with select people acting as killers. These killers will pick a victim and a plan of action to murder them while non-killers are tasked with not only catching these murderers but also figuring out the underlying events and finding an end to the game.

While the traditional Mafia style has a set group of killers, we will be changing things up a little by having a rotating mafia. What this means is that each week two (2) characters will be selected to pull off that week's murder. Characters are tasked with finding the culprit while also figuring out the other roles in-play (more about roles can be found below.)

Characters will be rewarded for participation as well. Participation doesn't necessarily mean murder but also includes working together in trials, making connections with your fellow players and solving puzzles in the game's setting. More information on the types of rewards will be announced upon game start.

Our game schedule is as follows:

MONDAY-THURSDAY: Each Monday will begin with a weekly mingle for characters to explore the setting and get to know each other. These will go up at 9am PST/12pm EST.

FRIDAY: Body announcement! For those of you who were in [community profile] plasmatio, you may recall that this was a system in the last game in which we posted a brief NPC announcement regarding that week's victims. We will not be hosting investigations or discussing the potential crimes on this day. Please see below for more information.

SATURDAY: It's Trial Day! All characters will be required to attend ICly and we do ask that players are available for these days! If you need to miss a trial, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance so we may plan accordingly! Trials will begin at 9am PST/12pm EST and will go until 6pm PST/9pm EST unless stated otherwise. ICly characters will not be able to leave the trial unless ICly dismissed early, nor are characters ICly allowed to skip trials.

Since we're not hosting traditional investigations, trial days will also allow time for characters to review the bodies of the victims and utilize tools from the NPCs to perform a sweep for evidence where they will be allowed to check out the setting, look for clues and test theories to aid them in solving the mystery.

IC voting will also be live at the start of the trial and close at the end. All characters must vote! Not voting is grounds for being ICly killed off, thereby out of the living side of the game.

Once the vote is closed, the NPCs will make a final announcement of who's been voted for.

SUNDAY: Execution day! Executions will go live at 10am PST/1pm EST and while these are also not mandatory to be present for, they are open to the public to witness. Executioners will be given a choice on methods used to execute the culprit and these will be discussed with us prior to execution day.

This cycle repeats until we hit an ending to the game!

In addition, for those of you who will receive roles, we will provide you with your schedule at the time of acceptance and role introduction.

Roles

As mentioned there are other roles outside of the rotating mafia. These roles will be selected and players will be notified prior to game start. Please note: players with roles should keep these roles an IC/OOC secret! Additionally, there may be some incentive from the NPCs to coerce characters into keeping quiet.

[community profile] subdivided will have the following roles:

Novas: Based on the detective role of standard Mafia, two characters will be able to investigate one other character per week. They only get one chance per week and they will have to work together to decide how to use this information! More information will be given out at the time of assignment.

Crescent: Based on the doctor role of standard Mafia, this character will be able to protect one other character from becoming a victim per week. More information will be given out at the time of assignment.

Corona: Not exactly based on a standard Mafia title, this character will be able to pick one item to bestow upon the whole game (or, selfishly, keep for themselves if they want.) This item may be of use for that week's trial as well. More information will be given out at the time of assignment.

Everyone else: Even if you do not have a specific role, there will be plenty for you to do. Your NPCs will provide you all with tasks or objectives to change the shape of the game, and completing these will net rewards as well. More information will be available once the game starts going.

Voting

As notated above, before the end of each trial characters are required to vote! Not voting is heavily frowned upon and if this occurs your character will be killed off! The only exception will be if you let us know ahead of time that you will be unavailable for any particular trial. Please try not to miss several trials or two trials in a row.

There will be a special screened post for votes during each trial. There will be comments to vote for culprits and executioners and these will be linked with every trial for ease of navigation.

In addition to voting, characters will have access to the wishing well. This OOCly will be a post in which you can leave a comment with a thread portraying your character fulfilling their objective or checking on your character's merit to see what sort of small favors they can get. While receiving a prize is not mandatory, we do ask that you notate a completed objective to help us track the progress of the game.

FAQ

What is the pacing of the game?
Our game will be running on a 1:1 schedule and functioning on PST as both of the mods are PST. Please refer to the above timeline for when important posts will go up.

Do I have to be present for every trial?
If something comes up and you are unable to be present for a trial, please let us know in advance! We prefer 48 hours in advance (minimum 24 unless it's an emergency), but if you come to us really early before the trial starts or in the first hour of the trial we will be a bit lenient. If you do not let us know in advance, you will be killed off in-game.

How long will the game last?
We're aiming for a minimum of six, an ideal of eight, and a maximum of nine weeks!

Should a player need to leave the game prior to endgame, please speak with the mod team and we will discuss the next steps with you.

If I die early what happens next?
We will have a graveyard for characters to continue playing in and participating in! You can do open threads on the main graveyard post, or you may have private conversations with other dead characters.

Private conversations?
Private conversations! Sometimes your character (or a group of characters) will want to get together with people to spend time together or share information or whatever. This would become a private conversation that isn't shared with the game at large. Please check out the private conversations page for information on how to set up journal filters and more.

How active do I have to be?
Frankly, we like to see that players are participating either via weekly mingles, private threads, or both in addition to participation in trials! The game functions best when all players are active and engaging, so please keep this in mind when apping in! We ask that your time be managed well.

Additionally if you have a role, we will ask for a little extra higher activity to be around for coordination purposes, etc.

How do I contact the mod team for any questions/concerns/murder plans?
You may private plurk Dana and Ty ([plurk.com profile] decals and [plurk.com profile] interpretively respectively) in a joint PP, or you can send us a direct message on Discord! Discord is the most effective method for both mods, and our Discord handles are listed on the mod contact page and will be available in the group server.

Rules

1.) Please be nice! This is a game specifically created with the intention of all of our friends playing together in a fun environment, so we would really love for our friends to treat each other well. Please remember that IC =/= OOC and while murdergames can be competitive we ask that everyone treats everyone else with respect.

2.) Please be active! Yes, we've said it like six times in this page alone but this is a Very Big Thing!

3.) Please keep your roles a secret! Naturally ICly characters may share their roles with each other if it comes up in conversation and it becomes a fun game of chance, we but ask that OOCly you do not share your role(s) with other people.

4.) Keep in mind that this is a murdergame which means your character is just as likely to die as the next! Whether that's in week one or week six, if your character is chosen to be a victim that week they will be sent to the chopping block. However, we will have other things for the dead to do.

5.) Remember that canon powers/abilities are nerfed! While your character may be the strongest most powerful person in their canon it will not mean much here. Oops.

6.) Finally, if at any time you have concerns or feel uncomfortable about something in-game please contact us! As this is a game of our friends, we hope that you guys will come talk to us immediately so that we can get things straightened out and help where we can.
