okay so, starting with canon. her relationship with axel has been more or less all over the place. at the beginning she basically hated him, since to her he really wasn't any different from marluxia and larxene. he didn't give her a reason to think that he wasn't with them, so she just grouped them all together in the "these people are terrible and i wouldn't be sad if they got ran over" category. but even with that, she would have been more... unsure of him? because even when he was pretending to be on their side, he was never like. mean to her? like he'd make a comment here or there that could be taken as being an asshole but it wasn't the kind of bullying she received from the others and was more just him prodding to move things along the way he wanted them to. so even if she didn't like him, there was a weird sense of not knowing where exactly to place him because he didn't act the same way marluxia and larxene did to her.
and then he let her go. and naminé was aware that it could be a trap, because she had no idea why it would benefit axel to let her escape and go to sora since at that point she didn't know what his actual mission in castle oblivion was. but she couldn't deny that what he was saying was the truth? if he wasn't forcing her to stay in there, then there was literally no one but herself keeping her in that room. and even though his motives weren't exactly Good in regards to why he let her escape, the fact is that she wouldn't have gotten brave enough to stand up and go to help sora if axel never said anything, because she was so focused on being scared of what might happen to her if she got caught and things went wrong. but he gave her the push she needed to put aside her own fear and go to help someone who really needed it. and then he tried to kill her but like, they don't talk about that? it's fine.
and then they went their separate ways except not really, because it just turned into the adventure of naminé trying very hard to steal axel's friends from him while he insisted on kidnapping his friends and wow, they are both messes. and she felt bad about this whole process? like i said in the reply to roxas, the concept of friendship is something very dear to naminé since all she wanted was friends and to not be alone, so tearing apart the sea salt trio was something that sat very heavily in her because it was bad? they didn't deserve to have their happiness wrecked like that, even if it was objectively the right thing to do? but it was still Bad and she wouldn't have blamed axel for being mad at her, but instead the two of them just ended up fuckin running away together because sometimes, all of the same people want to kill you. but by the end of all of this, it's... she would very, very tentatively call him a friend? not to his face or anything, but she thought they were at least on the verge of friendship and could have crossed over to it more properly if they just had more time and also weren't trying to not get murdered. but again, it's fine.
so suddenly, they're showing up in murder village. and naminé is obviously very confused about all of this and kind of freaking out because if she's here then what happened to kairi?? and even with the assurance that time froze in their worlds, she's still concerned and it wasn't until axel assured her that he's from her future and everything works out that she was able to calm down more about that and instead focus on what's happening here. i think it was akane who asked naminé if she thought it was weird to get spoiled for your own future but naminé was just "nah because it means now i only have to really worry about what's happening here instead of over there" which was good.
although she was still uncertain of where she fit into things here. it's funny because a lot of people came to her and were like "oh so you're super close with axel and xion etc right" and she had to very awkwardly be like "no.... we know each other but we're not besties..." and people were confused since the way they acted in trials and stuff made it seem like they were a lot closer? but it's less being best friends and more just them being concerned about each other because in kh even if you're not super close you still help your friends!! but she didn't feel bad or anything about it? because even if she wasn't closer to them, they (especially axel) made the effort to keep her as involved as possible and that was more than she expected since she thought they might be a little mad over what happened now that they could actually sit down and process it.
which is why naminé didn't really interfere in xion things? she decided that she kind of interfered in their friendship enough, so after axel asked her not to tell xion about roxas, and after xion asked her not to tell axel her canon point, naminé was just "ok i am just going to let them figure out what to tell each other." but axel ended up going to naminé more often about actual plot related stuff, so naminé ended up sharing things with him instead of with xion, whoops. but it was also just that naminé was more comfortable with axel. nothing against xion but she just spent more time with axel canonly so it was easier to talk plot with him.
she was aware that axel was probably getting info that he wasn't sharing with her though. like there was this one thing that naminé found out, i can't remember what it was, and when she told axel about it he eventually admitted he already knew. and it was weird, because she was a little upset? she and roxas ended up talking about it a bit. but it was like, she wanted to be useful and do things, but she was aware people would purposely keep information away from her because of her age and her general demeanor? she knew that people would prefer to protect her from things even if she knew she could handle it. so someone like axel would be more or less one of the only people who'd tell her things? and he did for the most part? he told her about his role and other people who had some, but then there were things like when he did the four reveal that had her like "hm" but she was never going to actually complain to his face about it. she, admittedly, almost didn't tell him about the lms thing because she assumed that he already knew about it and just didn't tell her?? which was why she waited til friday instead of right when she found out about, but she told him anyway...
axel became her closest ally here though. even with her other close relationships it was like... she never talked plot with minato, akane was bullying her, emma very blatantly kept her out of things, roxas was a npc so he couldn't help as much as he wanted etc etc. so she ended up leaning on axel a lot for things, especially because he was someone who was not only going through the same thing here, but he was the one who understood her the most in general? since he's the only person here who actually has her entire backstory. and he treated her like a friend and someone who he cared about, and that meant a lot to her? axel was probably the main reason she was able to keep going as well as she did. she wouldn't have given up or anything if he wasn't around or if he died, but she didn't really let herself dwell too much on the bad parts like she would have otherwise because any time she got too sad, he'd be there and she could keep going.
but also re: lms thing, she knew that roxas didn't really approve of her and axel keeping xion out of the loop on certain things, and again naminé kind of made the decision to leave the choice to tell her or not to axel. but at the same time she didn't really regret it too much because xion did, in fact, react in the exact way they thought she would. but also in regards to lms, finding out that axel wanted it to be her was a lot? it was probably the most touching anyone had said to her, even though she didn't entirely believe him until emma confirmed a little later that he did in fact say that. so naminé decided to try to make it as close to the end as she can? because she didn't want to let him down even if no one else wanted it to be her. except of course she was corrupted at that point so. haha!
she started realizing that it might have been her during the trial? the toy car wheel is what made her go hmmm but that area had toys, so she figured that it could be something else? especially since she didn't have any injuries on her. i think that if axel hadn't gotten into trouble for covering for people in the past, she would have tried to signal to him in the trial that she thought it might be her, but since she didn't want kara to mcstab him she just stayed quiet instead. also fun fact: the reason that her corrupted self brought up the attempted murder thing in that way was because she knew wording it that way would make him uncomfortable and also that he couldn't correct her without outing himself, haha.
i need to go back to doing my actual job so i need to end this weeps. but basically axel was her best friend by the end of everything, even if he didn't think the same way of her but she was completely ok with that. axel was basically the only person who she could have a normal friendship with where they can do silly things like spy on shess and eat snacks, while also discussing the heavier topics that happen in a mg, and it was something that meant a lot to her. she's really excited for their future together so they can spend even more time together, although apparently they need to fuckin get sora back first but it's fine it's all good
