SIB!! CINNABAR WAS THE MOST TSUNDERE ROCK AND KAORU STILL LOVED AND SUPPORTED THEM. It's so funny because at first he just sort of assumed he'd never talk to them and never have to deal with it, but when they started really talking he noticed that they were just sort of a misunderstood and mistreated gem because of being isolated and like I told you, it's very similar to what he noticed with Kasanoda in his own canon. Without Hikaru around, he obviously didn't devolve into mocking them and instead just spent time trying to get to know them and talk to them.

Even if they were prickly, he thought their world view was both sad and interesting and most of their relationship was created by Kaoru's own curiosity to understand. He wanted to try and let them know that people were always going to be curious and that not everyone would shy away or the like, but he's also kind of crappy about boundaries and has a tendency to do whatever he wants to do. Cinnabar is one of those people that he figured he could just keep existing in their presence and if they really got annoyed they'd walk away.

He also still firmly believes they deserve nice things. It's why he agreed to make a bag for Minato to give to them, and why he made a new wardrobe for them and etc. He stands by what he said about thinking people should get to experience new things, and while they weren't exactly friends or anything he did like them and enjoyed their time together.
