clowns dedicate their lives to making people smile, it's the most respectable profession there is okay

i'm going to preface this by saying i love akane so much and my love for her rivals my fear of her, every time minato reached for her hand or the one time he put his arms around her, i was expecting for her to blow up in his face for touching her and every time i sent a tag like that i had to stand up and leave my desk and go aaaaaaaaa I WAS CONSTANTLY SCARED OF THIS CR COLA YOU HAVE NO IDEA i spent all game waiting for the other shoe to drop but instead, minato just grew more and more fond of her and she was nothing but good to him all the time even if she laughed at him a lot, and i cry now thinking about it, how it kinda was a situation on both side where they agree to date and then developed feelings after. even in their first meeting minato liked her bc she would laugh at the things he says and does (even if it were making fun of him... it's fine bc laughter means the person is happy and whatever he does that can make somebody happy is fine) and that sort of thing endears him very quickly. she was always smiling and laughing around him and he loved that a lot, and she was just so easy and comfortable to talk to bc they would talk about random things that weren't very heavy and it was a lot like just chatting with a friend, and in the party where she got excited talking about kaijus and superhero shows and all that and that was like one of minato's cherished moments in his time here bc his absolute favorite thing is seeing people excited and happy about something. so he already liked her a lot before they started dating and thought they could be really close friends and he brought up eloping as a joke(?) and akane brought up dating or getting married as a joke(?) and he went "okay" bc at that point, he would've been okay with it

but she acted a lot more like his girlfriend than he acted like her boyfriend AND THAT WAS TERRIBLE OF HIM I'M SORRY like whatever happened behind each other's backs, minato didn't really... hide... his affections for other people, mostly because he likes people in general? this is obvious? maybe it's fine. so he didn't really address it at all... but although he kept insisting at the beginning how he wanted to be there for her and protect her, it quickly became clear that akane is a lot more competent than he is and she ended up doing all the protecting aldsfkjh she would always be doing things for him, taking care of him, and talking to him about his life and his fears and they shared many of the same fears, and she felt like the one person he could really connect with. for akane, the sort of love was that of soul mates, bc he felt like she's the one who really understood him and could come to accept his flaws just as much as his merits, and if they could be together, forever and always, it would have been the best outcome for him, because he gets to be with somebody who resonates with him

so he loved her a lot in that sense, and always felt comfortable around her and wanted to be able to understand and help her too. he never really got much into how she was in the past vs how much she changed to be the person she is now (sort of) but he wanted to constantly reassure her that it didn't matter and he would still like her no matter what bc the past makes up who you are and he likes her as a person and that encompasses all of that

even after she killed cinnabar over something so insignificant, it was really hard for him to hate her because he cherishes cinnabar and he cherishes akane and ??? he really didn't want to take sides and so he just sort of... glossed over it... effectively meaning he took her side i guess but really it was just a can of worms he didn't want to touch bc he ended up crying in front of cinnabar later about it haha... but it was really the resignation with which she accepted her fate in the trial that struck him and concerned him, because from his point of view, it was like she wanted to get caught. she knows they do an injury check almost every trial and she would know that the mercury would be visible and she should have washed it off and then nobody would catch her. but she just accepted it and didn't even want to say anything to anybody at the end bc she's right, nothing she says would change the outcome and nobody would believe anything she says anyways and it just really hurt to watch her give up like that, that she wouldn't even try to make a case for herself. it felt like she'd given up on everything and everyone and that's why, in the end, it had to be her. because even if she'd given up on absolutely everything, he didn't want her to feel that everybody had given up on her, because he knows apathy so well and that it's not something people can come out of on their own and out of everything, he always carries with him the hope that people can change for the better. she made him change for the better. he believes that for her too

so, like. from the start, akane was... so funny... every time she says something or just smiles at him in a way that's clearly meant to influence him, i laughed and minato loved her even more, it was so funny. she was the first person he got to do a pinky promise with, and she was the first person to say explicitly that they were friends, and he was a lost cause after that. even if she were pretending around him, all minato does is pretend around people too, it doesn't make it any less real
