But I can say with confidence that she was honestly one of his absolute favorite people in the entire place.
As far as swords go, Mikazuki is probably the one that spends the greatest amount of time actually considering their new emotions, and learning to decipher them. He spends a lot of time watching humans and his default is to like them, to find their actions endearing, and wishing them well. But as far as he’s concerned, Emma was one of the people who was so incredibly human. She felt everything very strongly, and she reached out to say hello to him just because, and he thought that was incredibly endearing? There was a habit that she had in the beginning of the game, where she would always ask “Can I ask you a question?” and every single time, Jiji would say, “You can ask me anything at all.”
But she would still always ask again - “Can I ask you something?” and he thought it was really sweet that she kept prefacing it, LMFAO. It was very polite, and one of the things that charmed him silly was the fact that her favorite human invention was bubble baths. He loves luxury as much as anyone else, but that was just such a simple pleasure type of answer that he wanted to reward it??
In general, he knew that Emma was doing her best for people - and doing her best to make sure that more people didn’t have to die than necessary (before they found out that everyone had to be deda anyway). It’s why he didn’t really get frustrated or irritated when she questioned why he never got mad at anyone for being an idiot, or when she confronted him about being a little callous during that week when they could’ve had a lot of partnerless death. It was because it came from a place of kindness even then - as far as he could tell - that he was willing to let her vent all her emotions at him, and never held it against her. He figured that she was just getting mad at people being stupid because their stupidity would lead to their own harm, and she was upset at the idea of people dying from circumstances outside their control and having to think about the impending doom - and he thought that was really more of what made Emma so kind.
The fact that she went out of her way with North to kill Julius by the way? So many respect points from Jiji. He was so fucking proud of her for using her role in order to kill a corrupted, and being able to use her newfound trust in North in order to have someone who would help her do it. He really doesn’t care about killing when it becomes a necessity as it does with the Corrupted - he’s a sword, at the end of the day - and he just thought that it was impressive of her to be able to complete it on her own. SURE, IT WAS MESSY AND THEY GOT FUCKED UP, but the fact that there was initiative at all made him very pleased. When he met up with them both in the morning, he was very satisfied with their work regardless because they did it to keep others safe and he didn’t even? Have to ask? He didn’t have a Comet? It was great?
Also his task for her was a nudge to get her to apologize to Ookurikara because - he knew that sometimes Emma would make some pretty quick judgments about people. He never held it against her! But he had a feeling that she could at least recognize that she misjudged Kara a little bit, and then reflect on that as she wished. He never wanted to come out and be like “apologize to my comrade” or “think before you judge people too harshly” because he’s not really always a direct lecture type, but he wanted Emma to ease into the idea on her own. He just hipchecked her into it.
But I think there’s something that made Mikazuki really attached to Emma, even more attached than he normally gets to humans and normally only reserves for his favorites in history - but it was the fact that she didn’t want to be the last one, coupled with the fact that even at the end, she wasn’t sure how much she did for people. Mikazuki says that when he looks throughout history, not everyone gets a chance to shine. Not all names go down in history books, and not everyone gets to be prominent. He doesn’t think that Emma will go down in history for anything great the way that warlords do, but he didn’t want her to go to the end of her life thinking that everything that she did was for nothing. He didn’t want her to die with the idea that her life was meaningless, not when he saw the ways that she meant so much to the people around her. Just having her around to talk to, and having her worry over him, touched his heart - and he knew that others likely felt the same. It’s why he was so stubborn about making her acknowledge her own worth, and not changing his price for the sedative. Just because it wasn’t a perfect ending doesn’t mean that her life didn’t change others.
Every time that she worried after him, and tried to tell him that his life had meaning, and always encouraged him that he was doing enough - this old grandpa sword thought it was incredibly sweet. They were friends, and she made a difference in his life, even if they only knew each other a short while - and he wanted her to acknowledge the ways that she could help others that she didn’t even realize, just by being herself.
He stans!!
