with kaoru it was a lot of ??? bc he would talk about his host club like it's no big deal and mention how his world has no magic and is so normal, but for minato, being able to communicate and being able to make people happy are so much more important than power and magic and whatever and he would have given everything up in a heartbeat to be more like kaoru. he admired kaoru a lot and he should've tried harder to push the idea so that kaoru would know without a doubt how amazing minato thought he was. he really appreciated kaoru always going "um" at his idiosyncrasies but at the same time just being so incredibly chill that even though he didn't understand what minato was doing or saying, he would just accept them as they are and by extension it felt like minato was accepted as he is. so it was always very comfortable talkng with kaoru and he didn't have to worry too much about sounding weird, and even though minato thought maybe it was a host thing at the beginning, the idea quickly dropped in favor of this just being how kaoru is. he ended up going to kaoru for a lot of advice bc it felt like kaoru would be most likely to give him his honest opinion when something is dumb BUT ALSO do what minato asked him to do even if it's dumb lmfao
the moment minato met sol/roxas who i'm just going to refer to as sol bc it's easier to type, he immediately loved him bc sol just gave him gravy and a cactus like it's no big deal and minato thought that was the coolest thing ever and all the way through the end of the game stood by the idea that sol was that much more powerful than lune, but also bc i really did mean to tag lune in the second mingle and instead i tagged sol again and i still want to crylaugh when i think about that, but it's fine bc maybe minato just loves sol a lot and never talked with lune for the rest of the game outside of like, maybe two or three times outside of trials. but anyways he loved sol a lot bc minato came in thinking that sol and lune were authoritative figures or people to tell them what to do or something, but getting to talk to sol was just making plans to play and hang out and it was a really nice little touch of normalcy outside of everything. he sort of just assumed sol and lune existed in a void until they were summoned by the lanterns since he didn't know anything about the graveyard, so to him, sol was sort of like elizabeth who he wanted to take out and show the world to, so he was really happy to do things like chatting about juggling and inviting him out to be part of a cooking competition, etc and sol coming to see minato when he lost his memory but still teaching him to ride a skateboard and everything. and then they talked about, like... how it can be hard to have fun in a place like this with everything going on around them and minato really didn't want sol's purpose here to be all work and no play, so he wanted two things for sol: 1) to make his time here as fun as possible, despite everything else, and 2) figure out whatever the fuck those universe hand things were in his hood and get rid of it, because having everything you say and do being controlled like that is really the worst. he never did figure out the last point, but he likes to think he did okay with the first one, especially when they just hung out together doing nothing important, like how friends would pass their time. he couldn't really guarantee happiness for sol since he didn't understand much about him even in the end, so the next best thing was getting him a dog. dana guessing sol as one of minato's 2340958489 love interests was very funny bc it could have happened, given time, he loved sol a lot and he was one of minato's favorite people here
